Lubbock County Jail

Lubbock County Jail

Yates Construction provided construction services for the Lubbock County Jail in Lubbock, Texas. The co-ed jail provides the county with a 1,500-bed maximum security facility that spans over 376,000 SF. The modular pod design allows for future expansion opportunity. This facility also features an “open concept” space plan which creates a safer work environment for the detention officers, allows for enhanced video surveillance, and maximizes the officer/inmate ratio per detention pod. One of the major goals when designing the facility was to keep the inmate population in their pod with minimal need to travel throughout the facility. A custom-designed visitor video system was installed allowing inmates to visit by phone or video in efforts to minimize travel and automatically shuts off when visitation time expires. This video system is also connected to the courthouse allowing judges and attorneys to visit remotely with inmates.
