Port of Isabel Spool Base Dock Facility

Port of Isabel Spool Base Dock Facility

Yates Construction provided design-build services for the Spool Base Dock Facility for Subsea 7 in Port Isabel, Texas. This project included dredging approximately 85,000 cubic yards of material, cutting a slip, and disposing of dredged material in an area adjacent to the property operated by Port Isabel. The slip accommodates 600-foot long ships with a 33-foot draft. The dock features a mooring and fendering system designed to restrain vessels during pipe spooling operations. Five mooring bollards, ranging from 50 to 75-ton capacity with a loading capacity capable of supporting a 200-ton crane were also placed. The facility loads pipe onto spools affixed on the ship in 4,000-foot lengths, which are welded together on site to avoid unnecessary at-sea welding.
