Semi-Submersible Barge System

Semi-Submersible Barge System

Yates Construction built the Beau Rivage hotel casino complex, which included construction of five barges that support a 150,000 SF floating facility with a parking garage and marina. Marine construction included 1,400 linear feet of sheet pile wall with an H-pile tie-back flood-wall and concrete cap, a 1,000-foot relieving platform, and the casino itself, built on a semi-submersible configuration.  The sea-anchored, semi-submersible barge system is the largest of its kind. Five custom-fabricated barges – each 100 feet wide by 300 feet long and 10 feet deep – are anchored by steel pipe piles that run 110 feet deep into the Mississippi Sound. Onshore construction work included installation of approximately 900 drill shaft displacement piles (each 18 inches in diameter and 110 feet long), and 1,700 drill shaft displacement piles (each 14 inches in diameter and 40 feet long). Yates also placed 140,000 cubic yards of reinforced structural and flat-work concrete, and constructed a 15-megawatt diesel backup generating plant in the central plant area with automatic switchgear interfaced with the constant power source.
