TPCO America selects Yates Construction for Phase Two Pipe Rolling and Finishing Mill in San Patricio County, Texas
San Antonio, TX, March 21, 2014, After multiple rounds of communication and negotiation with several construction companies, TPCO America selected Yates Construction for its Phase Two Pipe Rolling and Finishing Mill located on more than 300 acres east of Gregory, Texas, across U.S. 181 from Port Corpus Christi’s La Quinta Trade Gateway site in San Patricio County. Ultimately, this $1.1 billion steel processing plant will encompass 1.6 million square feet and represents the largest single investment by China in a United States manufacturing facility, as well as a brand new industry in South Texas. In the first 10 years alone, the economic impact to the Coastal Bend is estimated at $3 billion.
Tianjin Pipe Corporation, the Chinese parent company of TPCO America, is that nation’s largest producer of seamless steel pipe, a product that is in huge demand in the oil and gas industry, as well as in pipe products used in construction all around the world. The TPCO America facility will supply the considerable needs of the domestic oil and gas industry, while helping U.S. efforts to become energy independent and keep prices in check for energy consumers. This project is expected to create thousands of jobs for American workers both during construction and when manufacturing operations come online afterwards. It is anticipated that the new facility will eventually employ a workforce of 600‐800 people.
TPCO America recently issued a Notice to Proceed to Yates for construction of its Phase Two Pipe Rolling and Finishing Mill. Both TPCO and Yates encourage local subcontractors, material and service suppliers who may be interested in working on the construction of this major facility to contact Yates directly for more detailed information and opportunities. Subcontractor and Supplier Fairs are currently being planned to begin in mid‐April 2014 throughout the Coastal Bend.
