Yates Construction’s Atlanta Office Earns ‘Green’ Certification by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)

November 19, 2013, Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) named Yates Construction’s Atlanta, Georgia office a Certified Green Contractor. The ABC Green Contractor Certification program is designed to document the merit shop construction community’s efforts to develop a sustainable workplace environment, both on and off the jobsite, as well as recognize ABC member firms that are green industry leaders.

The process to achieve Green Contractor Certification required fulfilling a series of environmentally-beneficial operational and construction activities, which included 12 prerequisites and 12 of 36 elective items. To achieve the certification, Yates Construction demonstrated their compliance with each prerequisite, which included establishing a recycling program, sustainable purchasing efforts, implementing water and power conservation strategies, and using non-toxic biodegradable cleaning practices. Yates Construction also fulfilled 13 of the elective items including implementing an electronics recycling program, video conference and electronic archiving capabilities, utilizing sustainable equipment and fixtures, and requiring sustainable rules to be posted and enforced on each project site. The certification required compliance with four education and training benchmarks, such as instructing employees on sustainability issues and requiring at least 25 percent of our managers to receive green building awareness education. Yates Construction exceeded this requirement by confirming 25% of their managers received an average of 12 hours of sustainability training, which exceeds the required training by four hours.

This is the third Yates Construction office this year to receive the ABC Green Contractor certification, and we are proud to be a company that embraces sustainable practices in our day to day business operations.
